We collect Personal Information, for example, when you request a quote for insurance, apply for insurance, pay insurance premiums (including by using our online payment and autopay functionalities), file an insurance claim, upload videos or photographs related to your policy or a claim along with any metadata that is associated with such content (such as geolocation and time that the photo or video was taken), engage in a chat through our chat functionality, or give us your contact information. We also collect Personal Information about you from other sources, such as affiliates or other companies that provide us with demographic and other information. We also may obtain information from the American Automobile Association or your AAA club relating to your AAA Membership.

 

We also obtain information from consumer reporting agencies and insurance support organizations. It may include your driving record, claims history with other insurers, credit report information, and your insurance score. A consumer reporting agency that gathers information about you may share this information with others who are authorized to use consumer reports as allowed by law.

 

How We Use Personal Information

Your written request must include your full name, mailing address, and policy number (if applicable), state that your request is in response to this Privacy Policy, and identify the specific Personal Information you want us to correct, amend, or delete. You may request the identity of all persons we show as having received your Personal Information from us within the two years prior to your request. We will respond to your request within 30 business days from the date we receive your request. We will not provide information that we conclude is privileged, such as information about insurance claims or lawsuits. If you request is for correction, amendment, or deletion, we will either take the requested action or tell you why we will not, and will notify you in writing of our decision. If we make the requested correction, amendment, or deletion of Personal Information, then we will notify any person you specifically designate who, within the preceding two years, may have received such Personal Information.

 

We cannot change consumer report information we obtain from consumer reporting agencies. To do this, you must contact the consumer reporting agency that provided it. We do not have to change our records if we do not agree with your request. The California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA) gives California consumers the right to know what Personal Information and Sensitive Personal Information is collected about them, and how it will be used, disclosed, and sold.   • You have a right to opt-out of the sale or sharing of your Personal Information and Sensitive Personal Information (as defined by the CCPA).

How to Submit a Data Privacy Request

 

To submit a CCPA request, please complete the online request form by going to https://csaa-insurance.aaa.com/ and clicking “CCPA Data Privacy Request” in the bottom footer under “Resources” or call us at 888-980-6091.

 

Verification of Your Identity

 

To process your CCPA request, we must be able to verify your identity to a reasonable degree of certainty. In order to do so, you must provide the required identifying information when completing the online request form or making a request through one of our customer service agents. We will ask you to provide your contact information and an additional identifier based on your relationship with us. Before we process your request, we will match these data points with data points we currently maintain to verify your identity and your relationship with us. If we cannot verify your identity, we will not be able to process your request. If you are a visitor to our website who does not interact with us by, for example, requesting a quote, logging into your online account, or making a payment, we are unable to verify your identity to a reasonable degree of certainty because we do not maintain information that could reasonably be linked to you.

 

Responding to Your Requests

 

We may determine that the Personal Information and Sensitive Personal Information related to your request is exempt from the CCPA because it is regulated by other federal and state laws that apply to insurance companies. To exercise your privacy rights under those laws, please see the “Choice and Access” section of this Privacy Policy. If your Personal Information and Sensitive Personal Information is exempt, the CCPA does not require us to provide it to you or delete it.

In addition, we may not be required to delete your Personal Information and Sensitive Personal Information under certain circumstances, including when it is necessary for us to maintain it in order to:

 

  • Complete a transaction with you or provide you with insurance products and services
  • Detect security incidents and protect against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity
  • Debug to identify and repair errors that impair functionality
  • Exercise free speech or ensure the right of another consumer to exercise their right of free speech
  • Comply with the California Electronic Communications Privacy Act
  • Engage in pubic or peer-reviewed research in the public interest
  • Enable solely internal uses that are reasonably aligned with your expectations based on our relationship with you
  • Comply with our legal obligations
  • Otherwise use your Personal Information and Sensitive Personal Information, internally, in a lawful manner that is compatible with the context in which it was collected

 

Authorized Agent

 

You can designate an authorized agent to make a CCPA request on your behalf. When you use an authorized agent to submit a request, you must provide the authorized agent with signed permission to do so, and, in certain circumstances, we may ask you to verify your own identity or confirm that you provided the authorized agent permission to submit the request directly with us. We may deny a request from an authorized agent that does not submit proof that they have been authorized by you to act on your behalf.
